Minnesotans for Line 3 today “corrected” a recent letter signed state and federal legislators, including Congresswomen Ihan Omar and Betty McCollum.  The letter makes a number of false and misleading claims about the project as construction work continues.

This week we have seen another example of people opposed to the Line 3 being willing to do or say anything to try to stop the project.

They have made an “urgent” request to President Biden to intervene and stop a project that is more than 90 percent complete.  The only real urgency related to Line 3 is the desperation of people opposed to the project who cannot and apparently will not accept reality.

In the past, opponents have used violent protests and threats to try to stop work. After that failed, they have now decided to mislead and misrepresent information to falsely create a reason for Presidential intervention.  This intentionally misleading information disparages the union workforce building Line 3, questions the thorough Minnesota process that has fully vetted the project, and demonstrates the signers’ ignorance about the realities of the positive economic impact Line 3 has had for northern Minnesota.

For more than six years regulators have been reviewing, analyzing, and studying the Line 3 Replacement project.  Everything has been studied; including where it should go, what impacts rebuilding it will have, and even if it’s needed.

At each step of the process, the project has passed each test. As opponents continue to ask courts to revoke permits and approvals, judges have instead denied every request.

There are no more legal challenges left in Minnesota and today the project is almost complete.  Thousands of people have been able to work on this project to support them, their families and communities across Minnesota.  Billions of private sectors dollars have been invested here in a way that has supported Native American companies, workers, and other businesses at an important time for Minnesota.

The closer the project gets to the finish line and as courts continue to respect the permits and process, opponents are sadly turning to more desperate efforts.  This letter and the false premise it presents is another example of people who refuse to accept reality.
