In response to the question “Should the Commission grant the relief requested by the Red Lake Band of Chippewa and the White Earth Band of Ojibwe as detailed in their November 25, 2020 Motion for Stay of the Line 3 Replacement Project Final Orders?” No, the Commission should not grant the requested relief because delaying this project will result in: • Further delay to Minnesota putting thousands of people back to work at a time when almost a third of all people along the pipeline route communities have filed for unemployment help. • Prolonging the budget crisis for counties and school districts who need the new tax revenue that will be created when the project is complete. • Holding off opportunities to earn needed salaries for members of tribal communities who have been trained and are ready to work on this project. • Needlessly delaying the important work to replace an aging pipeline with one that is newer, better, stronger, and built by skilled trades and laborer who will bring economic relief to Minnesota communities. Line 3 is the most studied and reviewed project of its kind in Minnesota history. The PUC has reviewed all the facts and data and has repeatedly agreed that Minnesota needs to replace Line 3. There is no need to delay this project any further and I strongly encourage you to deny the request for a stay of the Line 3 Replacement Final Orders.
